Fat Freddy’s Drop: Alexandra Palace

Saturday 3rd June

Warm up set by #GoodTimes DJ and friend Norman Jay MBE as he came in straight from another gig up in Northampton. He is a credit to the music that he plays and you can see the crowd love him too as they all unwound and let the vibe take over as the music does it’s thing. The crowds rolled in cruising to the beat of Norman’s amazing sounds, John Legend “Ordinary People” and then as the drum roll came closer for the Freddy’s to take to the stage, he cranked some seriously great beats. 10,000 people in one venue, Alexandra Palace warmly welcomed Fat Freddy’s Drop. An absolute pleasure to host these guys here in London. Slave taking to the stage with the rest of the band giving the crowd everything they could possibly ask for launching straight into the familiar and much craved Kiwi sounds. I can honestly say, you’ve not lived until you’ve seen Fat Freddy’s Drop do a live show. Each member of the band (There are 8 of them!) is a musical genius in their own right. So tight, flawless, they just know, the music just is, and the crowd show such appreciation to the boys. There is a real respect from the fans to the Freddy’s. A powerful rendition of “Razor” with that deep dub guitar from Jetlag going right through you. Hopepa, wowzers! What can I say? Two outfits for us, the sparkles, the shoes, the hat, the music, you give every single bit of yourself to the show and we just love it. Sitting close to the barriers to compose himself, waiting, he brings out his harmonica and quite literally pelts out the most insanely fearless tune. This guy is a sight to behold and simply amazing! He also jumped off the stage and ran around the whole arena and back onto the stage! A sound to be heard, and all of the tribe at Fat Freddy’s Drop relentless to the core. Slave expressing a heart felt Happy Birthday to Dallas on stage and proceeded to get the whole of Alexandra Palace to sing for him! Nicely done. The encore was triggered by DJ Beau Beau who has joined the tour with his Dad Hopepa. A brilliant merge of the encore roar into hit single “This Room”. Man that was good! Boondigga, Shiverman… Humble, talented, sounds that feed the soul, thank you guys. Be safe, enjoy the tour, and we look forward to next time.
