I had the pleasure of meeting Christina Fee when I was out on New Year’s Eve with my husband at The Griffin in Old Amersham. It was just 3 days after we had said “I do” and here we were welcoming 2025. We were actually about to leave having watched the fireworks. Little did I know, that in these first few moments of 2025 celebrations, I was about to meet a new and very interesting friend.

I am passionate about supporting women to be the biggest, boldest version of themselves, no matter their age or background. My mission is to empower you to confidently pursue whatever you want to achieve, including reaching our teenage girls in schools during those vital formative years as they grow into young women.
Inspired by her Ghanaian roots and her late Mother’s example, Christina was moved to create nurturing spaces where women can pause, check in with themselves, learn and grow. I’ve now had the pleasure of photographing two Sekawomen events this year and Christina has also visited my studio for a photoshoot for her website headshots. To be honest with you, initially I wasn’t sure about how it would be to have this woman only vibe. I don’t tend to go to out to groups and therefore had not considered being part of a women only event. I wondered if it might attract the ‘man haters’ and goodness knows what else. Not at all. What was rather heartening, is that it was said openly that the other women who had attended had also been a little apprehensive about going, but how lovely the whole experience was. I mean, it’s really liberating to just have a good chat, share, laugh, meet new friends, eat some delicious food and celebrate life. We all came away from it refreshed and having learned something new. September 2025 marked the first Birthday for Sekawomen. Here’s to many more.

“The word Seka comes from my Ghanaian heritage. It means “calm” or “peace” and carries connotations of tranquillity, renewal and serenity. It is a term often used in situations where we are seeking a state of peace and quiet. This reflects the Ghanaian culture of harmony, emphasising balance in life. This spirit underpins everything I do – my approach to work and life is based on building relationships through authentic connections.”
To give you an idea of what goes on, we listened to a talk by nutritionist Alex Brown – “Find Your Fabulous”. Alex has a wonderful vibe about her and can make you burst out laughing pretty fast. She offered tips on what to look out for in ready made foods and where the nasty ingredients tend to hide so we can choose more wisely. Caroline Roodhouse spoke about ways to inspire and achieve after experiencing loss. Also a little about her book “Daddy Blackbird”. Sam Remer from “I Love Jeans” explained all these hacks of how to choose the right denim. Things I’d never even thought of. Charmaine Murray spoke about pursuing her dream to set up a clothing boutique which is now in Amersham called “Sueno”. Laura Bloomberg was fantastic and did a session regarding EFT. This is a scientifically proven technique that has been used on soldiers who are recovering from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Now, of course we are not necessarily a room full of women soldiers with these troubles, however, the point is, everyone is dealing with various stresses in their everyday lives, and it’s so important to have some mechanisms that help you to get relief from that when you need it. After all, health is wealth. Laura got the whole room doing EFT and the response was remarkable. On international women’s day Christina even had the whole session learning about sourdough with a masterclass from “Kenny the baker” at Ourdough bakery.

I hope you have enjoyed this little insight into what Sekawomen is all about. Christina will be announcing future events, supper clubs, and retreat days, so do check out her instagram and website for more information. As for the venue, it’s beautiful. Whether you want to purchase some freshly baked sourdough from the “Ourdough Bakery“, or go for an exquisite meal in a classy setting, The Griffin is simply out of this world.

As we shift into the Autumnal season of mists and mellow fruitfullness, take some time for yourselves and for each other. It’s not a race. Always remember to enjoy the journey. Gem Rey x
